May Photo-a-Day and a Giveaway

May Photo-a-Day and a Giveaway

michellerollerphotographydotcomIt’s time for May Photo-a Day!  Did you know that the month of May is National Photography Month here in the US of A?  Yep, President Reagan initiated a celebration of photography 30 years ago and Congress officially recognized it in 1987. So, what do you say? How about we do a little celebrating of our own?

The new month of our own photo a day challenge is here, so I say let’s have some fun. With this month’s inspiration list we’ll be playing with light, where and how we place our subject within the frame, food photography, still life, and allowing for a couple of free days where your photo creativity can go any which way you choose.

And…what would any celebration be without a fun surprise tucked in? So, for this special photo month I’ve got a sweet little giveaway for one participant who stays true to the “a day” part of the Mark 4:30 Photo A Day challenge. When you post your very own photos each and every day of May you’ll be in the running to win this delightful journal.

TheMayGiveaway

It’s a great place to jot down your thoughts and ideas and it’s sprinkled throughout with inspiring quotes about photography. Fun! If you’re posting somewhere besides Instagram let me know by leaving a comment or contacting me via email (lisa at mywordstudy dot com) so you’re sure to be on the list of possible winners.

So let’s get ready to celebrate!  Here’s this month’s inspiration list (go ahead…use that Pin It button that appears when you hover over the list) followed by suggestions for interpreting the prompts in case you get stuck. Find everything you need to know to participate right here.

Today begins a brand new month of the Mark 4:30 Photo A Day challenge. I’d love to have you participate this month. Now that the weather has broken (for most of us anyway), we’ll be getting out and about more, enjoying the outdoors. It’s a great time of year to take in the beauty of our surroundings, but I wonder….will you be seeing it?

I’m asking because, personally, I’ve noticed something lately.  Since creating and participating in the Mark 4:30 Photo A Day challenge I’ve honestly begun to wonder if I’ve been walking through much of life as though blindfolded. Continue reading

March Photo Challenge

It’s time for a new month of picture taking with the Mark 4:30 Photo A Day challenge.  Here’s the inspiration list we’ll be using for the March photo challenge along with suggestions for interpreting the prompts in case you get stuck. Remember, even if you won’t be participating this month you might know others who would, so spread the “Word” by telling your friends.

Speaking of spreading the word, last month we had our first participant from “across the pond”, a photographer from the UK who gave us a glimpse of life in another part of the globe.  We’ve had people from as far away as Mexico and Alaska providing those of us here in the contiguous States with a peek into unique and diverse regions. Whether taken from far or near, getting a chance to view photos not only from another place but also another perspective can be so very interesting. Additionally, because this is a photo challenge like none other, one that puts the focus on God’s Word, all the while we sense this wonderful camaraderie around our mutual love for Him and His Word. Won’t you join in the challenge this month? Everything you need to know about how to participate can be found here. It’s time….

Ready…set….shoot!

I too am declaring some love this month…actually it’s a new love….Continue reading

Life in View

Life in View

We’re nearing the end of the first month of 2014.  How’s it going? I hope your year thus far has been filled with goodness!  Remember Psalms 65:11?

With the end of the month also comes the close of another month of Mark 4:30 Photo A Day.  January has been a great month for me.  I’ve had loads of material for my photo a day entries since I did so much traveling.  From New York to Florida and then to Mexico, my subject matter has been all over the map. Every day in Mexico I was giddy with excitement at the prospect of sharing a photo of the extraordinary things I was seeing.

Now though, I’m faced with a new but no less exciting challenge. Why? Continue reading

January Photo Challenge

January Photo Challenge

Happy New Year!  As a new year begins people usually desire to see more change than just the calendar. Although losing weight is typically the number one change people want to make for the new year, when LA Fitness asked 2,000 people what their aims for 2013 were, surprisingly “take better photos” was number 5!  Really?

Without a doubt there’s growing interest in photography of late. Maybe it’s because we have cell phones, thus cameras, always in hand…or maybe it’s the influence of all that beautiful imagery we see on Pinterest, blogs, and Tumblr sites.  Whatever the reason, more and more people are giving photography a shot.

I too am more interested in photography than ever, but when I think of changes to make for a new year, Continue reading

November Photo Challenge

November Photo Challenge

November Photo Challenge begins today!

It’s November…the month for giving thanks.

Here in the United States we set aside special days this month to give thanks for our veterans on Veterans Day and to give thanks for countless other blessings on Thanksgiving Day.

Every day is a day to be thankful though, and I’ve noticed that taking time to notice my surroundings and capture a unique aspect of them in a photograph can be a powerful tool in fostering thankfulness. This photo challenge provides that opportunity in more ways than one.  Since our daily photo prompts are from God’s Word we are constantly reminded of His will, His warnings, His plans, and above all…His promises! Yes, this month we’ll be mindful daily that there’s so much to be thankful for.

Also this month Continue reading
